Hey guys!

Finally got round to finishing one of my favorite looking space wolves models.. Arjac Rockfist! Hope you like :)

Sunday 10 March 2013

Ok my first proper post is a quick run down of how i paint a typical Space Wolf. Unfortunately most of my paints are from 2nd edition so I can only give you names of paints that I have right now. I will edit the post later as I find out what the new colours are :) Apologies for the poor lighting and camera quality but hopefully you'll get the idea and i'm by no means a professional.

Ok so here we go..

First off undercoat the whole model in Chaos Black.

Basecoat the model in Administratum Grey.

Use Nuln Oil shade liberally over all the Grey areas then heavy drybrush the Grey back over the top.

Lightly drybrush Skull White over the raised areas and undercoat Skull White for the lighter coloured areas, also basecoat the silver areas Boltgun Metal.

Pick out the yellow areas with Sunburst Yellow.

Paint all fur areas in Bleached Bone and the gold areas in Shining Gold.

Hair can be done any colour but in this instance its Fire Orange the tan area of the fur is done in Snakebite Leather and the face is base coated in Bronzed Flesh.

Use Gryphonne Sepia over all the fur areas, yellow areas and bones, paint the underside of the fur in Mechrite Red and on the Purity Seal, also Ogryn Flesh on the face and hair.

Pick out the deeper recesses of the face with Devlan Mud and use Ogryn flesh in the middle portion of the fur.

Use Bronzed Flesh on the raised areas of the face followed by Elf Flesh. Pick out the teeth with Skull White and the tongue with Blood Red. Use Moot Green on the cables, shade with Biel Tan and then highlight back with Moot Green. Drybrush the hair with Sunburst Yellow and use Devlan Mud in the very centre of the fur.

The red on the shoulder pad is Mechrite Red, the gems are painted in Amethyst Purple. All the straps are done in Snakebite Leather with Devlan Mud to shade.

Hope this helps a few people out there with a different more gritty way of making your wolves look. I personally am not a fan of the old Space Wolf Grey colour. It makes them look too cartoony.

So this is my first blog page..

After not playing 40K for nearly 15 years (last time I played was 2nd edition!!) I decided to buy the new Njal Stormcaller model.. You know.. Just to paint lol, next thing I know I've got 3500pts of wolves.

I know there is the Space Wolves Grey blog already, which is awesome and if you haven't seen it should check it out, but I wanted something myself to take up some free time.

So I shall be putting up regular updates of what I've bought and painted etc, some mini battle reports and painting guides. Again there are a million and one painting guides out there but I've gone for a more gritty looking pre-heresy colour scheme.

Anyway short but sweet introduction out the way.. Its late and I'm going to bed.

Catch up soon :)
